Washington High School of Information Technology has implemented a new a mobile application development curriculum for students, thanks for a major grant.
The public high school is one of only ten schools in the nation -- and the only in the Midwest -- to receive funding for the program.
The grant, awarded by The National Academy Foundation and technology firm Lenovo, provides tablets and laptops for students to design and test their apps, as well as academic support from developers at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Right now, the school is accepting student proposals for the app, and next year it will narrow the field to five finalists. Then, the school will identify one app concept to develop, entering it into a competition with nine other schools across the country.
The curriculum formally begins next semester.
