Get up close and personal this winter at the Zoo

Looking for something different to do this winter? Bundle up and head out to the Milwaukee County Zoo.

If you are willing to brave the colder temps, you may be able to get some really unique experiences. Since the Zoo is practically empty, you will have plenty of time to stand in front of your favorite animal enclosures without pushing around for space.

With less going on at the Zoo in the winter, most Zookeepers will have more time to chat. I visited the Florence Mila Borchert Big Cat Countryand met Zookeeper Denise. She took time to show me how they keep the hyenas animals extra busy in the winter. From new toys to bubble baths to watching videos, Denise shared some of the tricks they have to help keep the animals from getting bored. Want to get a gift for the animal lover in your life? Each animal section of the zoo has it's own Amazon "wish list" page. Send the primates art supplies care of your favorite Aunt or give a wooden ball toy to the new jaguar cubs from your animal loving teacher.

And if you are really lucky, a Zookeeper may take you behind the scenes where you can get up-close-and-personal with the animals.  Click the player above to more from my trip "backstage" to meet Tula the Siberian tiger and Pat the jaguar.
