Grassroots campaign for arts funding is uniquely Milwaukee

The United Performing Arts Fund started in the 1960's, when a group of Milwaukee's elders got together to discuss the future of arts in Milwaukee. Fast forward to today, UPAF is the largest donor to 15 of it's main Member Groups., From dance to theater to music, UPAF provides operating funds to help local organizations focus more on what they do best: creating art that inspires and educates our community.

UPAF is unique, in that it funds Southeastern Milwaukee arts by the people that live in the region. Donations are made through workplace giving where every dollar adds up to make a real difference for arts in the city. Grants from businesses also go towards the funding provided through UPAF, and no funding comes from the government. Mark Sabljak, publisher of the Business Journal and co-chair for the 2015 UPAF wants you to know that anyone can start a workplace giving campaign. "We have successfully met our goal every year, despite the economy and recession." He adds, "We're going to try to raise $12 million dollars this year."

The 2015 fundraising campaign kicked off Tuesday, march 3rd and runs through Tuesday June 9th. One of the most recognized parts of the campaign is the UPAF Ride for the Arts, sponsored by Miller Lite, on May 31st. Learn more about this family-friendly bicycle outing here.
