Special Olympic athletes compete in summer games

The Special Olympics of Wisconsin provides people with intellectual disabilities training in a variety of sports and the chance to compete in regional, national and international games. Nearly 10,000 athletes in 180 communities participate statewide in Olympic-type sports while developing physical fitness and sharing a sense of community.

I visited the Special Olympics of Greater Milwaukee at one of their meets, held at Nicolet High School in early August.

Check out the audio above to hear my interview with athlete and (hopefully) future coach, Jerry Halboth.
