Over the past year, Radio Milwaukee took a closer look at how we tell the stories happening in our community, with the aim of bringing even more of them to you while raising the quality you’ve come to expect from us. On May 2, those efforts resulted in the organization winning four Awards for Excellence from the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association.
The annual competition attracted more than 1,300 entries from 108 stations across the state, all of which were judged by professional broadcasters outside Wisconsin. The four awards given to Radio Milwaukee — which competed in the Large Market Radio (Music Format) division — were:
- 1st place — Best Podcast for Uniquely Milwaukee, “The Milwaukee Group Aiming to Change the Face of Golf”
- 2nd place — Best Podcast for Uniquely Milwaukee, “From Planks to Pride: The Local Program Building Boast, Confidence and Character”
- 3rd place — Best Original Feature, “Closing of This Is It Brings Out the Community”
- 3rd place — Best Original Digital Content, “Koss: A Symbol of Milwaukee”
“Broadcasters show year after year their dedication to their local communities, and it’s an honor to recognize their outstanding service,” WBA president and CEO Michelle Vetterkind said in a release. “There’s so much for radio and TV broadcasters to be proud of and great reason to celebrate them and their work.”
Those professionals from every corner of the state came to Madison for the association’s 2026 Awards Gala, where winners received their trophies and certificates recognizing their achievements. Milwaukee was well-represented on the night, with WISN-12 and 620 WTMJ winning station and news operation of the year in their respective divisions (Large Market Television and Large Market News & Talk Radio).
As an organization, we were extremely pleased to join our fellow broadcasters for the celebration. And while awards aren’t at the forefront of our minds day-to-day, we’re looking forward to submitting even more award-winning work for next year’s competition.
