For this week's Urban Spelunking, OnMilwaukee's Bobby Tanzilo takes us to the Milwaukee County Grounds in Wauwatosa where new residential construction is nearing completion adjacent to a cluster of historic buildings.
The site was once home to an agricultural college, designed by Alexander Eschweiler, the same architect who designed the earliest buildings on the UW-Milwaukee campus.
Now, the effort to restore the largest of the four remaining Eshweiler buildings is almost complete. The former administarion builing on the site (pictured above) will serve as the rental offices of the forthcoming Echelon Luxury Apartments, a $45 million project developed by the Mandel Group.
