Drinks, DJs, dogs, democracy — the Bay View Bash plays in a lot of areas that bring a lot of people to the stretch of Kinnickinnic Avenue between Potter and Clement. The local event’s been going since 2004 and returns from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 19, filling that time with all of the above and plenty more.
Music is readily available, as usual, with five different stages and more than 40 time slots featuring everything from rap to reggaetón and electronic to emo. Our highlights from the official full schedule (available below) include the back-to-back of Wave Chapelle x NilexNile and Gego y Nony starting at 6 p.m. on the Milwaukee Record Stage, Chapped Lips at 6:15 p.m. on the Rushmor Records Stage, and Emmitt James at 4:45 p.m. on the WMSE Stage.
Before the first notes are played, the day starts with the dog costume parade that steps off near the Rushmor Records Stage at 11 a.m. and wraps up at the WMSE Stage, where the best-dressed canines will receive their honors. The all-ages vibe continues throughout the day at the Bay View Community Center Family Area, which is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and features:
- Kid Boogie Down from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Jon Newcomb & Friends from 1 to 2 p.m.
- Daley Debutantes from 2 to 3 p.m.
- Big trucks from the City of Milwaukee (including a firetruck from Station 11) from 2 to 3 p.m.
- Other kids activities like games, face painting, temporary tattoos, coloring sheets, journals and jewelry creation stations.
As they correctly do every year, the event’s organizers enthusiastically remind all potential attendees to NOT carry in ANY beverages. For one thing, they work very hard to provide options for every palette, including the delicious New Glarus Staghorn Oktoberfest and a swath of selections from Third Space, plus plenty of N/A beverages. Then there’s the fact that proceeds from the Bash go right back into the community in the form of grants that nonprofits use on special projects.
Vendors will of course play a prominent role, and we’re not even going to attempt to list the more than 100 options that will be on hand. The brave folks from Milwaukee Record handled that task with aplomb, and you can bounce over to their site if you’d like to peruse the roster.
