88Nine Exclusive: Milwaukee's Field Report shares candid footage of Marigolden's recording session

On Oct 7, Field Report celebrated the one year anniversary of the release of their sophomore album, Marigolden. Porterfield and gang received several Radio Milwaukee Awards for Marigolden including Album of the Year, Band of the Year, and critic’s choice award.  88Nine also put together a track by track commentary of the album, which you can check out here.

To celebrate the anniversary, Field Report has shared some very candid footage of the recording session from Ontario, Canada.

"In December of 2013 Field Report traveled to northern Ontario to record  our second full length record. Working with producer and engineer Robbie Lackritz, we settled in at the private ranch residence of a friend of Robbie's.  Robbie had worked there before, and sent up gear from his studio in Toronto.

The amount of attention that we received on the first, self-titled Field Report record was a surprise. The requisite touring that followed its release had put a strain on friendships and home relationships and on health. Most of the original players from the first record had since stepped away.

I had begun a journey into sobriety in the fall of 2013. My confidence was shattered; my songs weren't where I wanted them to be. The arrangements weren't there yet. I didn't know how to be a sober human, much less a sober artist and bandleader.

Travis Whitty, who was playing bass in Field Report at the time, captured these candid moments of a band in a new place, wrestling with their roles in the band and straining to divine what unfinished songs
were asking for.

So here we are. Two years, hundreds of shows, two band members and forty boozy pounds ago. Released to the world 7 October, 2014 on Partisan records. Happy birthday, Marigolden."

-CM Porterfield
