President Lincoln's Treasury sponsored a highly-organized gang of counterfeiters to fake Union currency in order to finance the Civil War. After the war, these criminals became the leaders of Chicago's Mob. Their cultural endeavors included financing the Ziegfeld Follies and the early New Age Movement.
