Attend the new Suzanne Pieper Teaching and Learning Series, which are evening events throughout the academic year that are held at Alverno College in person, featuring the voices of experienced school leaders and researchers. These sessions support professional learning and focus on the theme "Nurturing Thriving Schools & Communities.”
This session: "Mindfulness-Based Regulation Strategies for the Classroom & Beyond" features guest speaker Emily Fleming, MAT, ERYT500, RCYT, Founder and Chief Consultant of Yoga in Classrooms & Schools Consulting and National-Level Conference Speaker.
In this interactive workshop, participants will learn how yoga, breathwork and mindfulness are effective tools for regulation and co-regulation in the classroom. Participants will get hands-on experience learning various mindfulness-based practices, and explore how they can integrate these practices into their own resource bank and their work with students. Through guided reflection, practice, and small and whole-group discussion, participants will identify the importance of regulation and co-regulation, and identify how mindfulness-based practices can be effective tools for regulation and co-regulation, in the classroom and beyond.
Key Learning Outcomes
1. Participants will learn yoga, breathwork and mindfulness-based strategies they can use to regulate and co-regulate in their classrooms and with their students.
2. Participants will reflect on which learned strategies and skills they find most beneficial and what implementation will look like in their work with students.
3. Participants will identify the importance of regulation and co-regulation, and explore how breathwork, mindfulness, and movement can help them regulate and co-regulate.
