New Kids on the Block will play the Amp next August

Milwaukee World Festival, Inc.

Thirty-four years later, New Kids on the Block are bringing back the magic.

On Monday morning, the pop icons announced “The Magic Summer 2024 Tour,” which NKOTB-heads will instantly recognize as the name of their 1990 stadium tour — with the year updated, of course. As part of that trip around North America, they’ll visit the American Family Insurance Amphitheater on Aug. 24 for a show featuring openers Paula Abdul and DJ Jazzy Jeff.

The Milwaukee appearance is the penultimate stop for the tour, which wraps up the following night in Indiana. NKOTB’s last time visiting the city was June of 2022, when they played Fiserv Forum with En Vogue, Salt-N-Pepa and Rick Astley.

The original “Magic Summer Tour” in 1990 included actual magic courtesy of Harry Blackstone Jr., who conjured up a few illusions that took place as the band performed. Based on Monday’s release, the tour next summer might not involve that level of prestidigitation.

“The true ‘magic’ of this tour is in the music, the moments and the memories that we get to create — and recreate — with our amazing fans each night,” NKOTB’s Donnie Wahlberg said in the release. “Feeling all the nostalgic feels of the original Magic Summer, with the bond that we’ve shared throughout the years, will make for a most magical time indeed.”

This Friday, they’ll rekindle some of that magic by releasing The Block Revisited, a new version of their 2008 comeback album. At 10 a.m. the same day, tickets for the Milwaukee show will go on sale to the general public via Ticketmaster and in person at the AmFam Amphitheater.
