MKE Concert Picks: Loaded local lineup celebrates Lennon’s legacy at Linneman’s

Wisconsin Anti Violence Effort

Milwaukee’s concert scene has a lot going on, so we look at the shows coming up to find the ones you’ll look back on and be glad you went. Then we add them to our weekly Milwaukee Concert Picks.

Before going to a concert, the superfans among us might do a little research and check out set lists from other tour stops so they get an idea of what they’ll hear at the show. Vaunted local music venue Linneman’s is going a step further for an event this Sunday and telling you precisely which songs will come from the stage, all in support of a good cause.

“Peace Through Music” is a yearly occurrence with two aims:

  1. Celebrate the music of John Lennon
  2. Raise awareness and money to curb handgun violence

The 23rd annual concert squeezes in 17 performance slots between 7 and 11:15 p.m., calling in local musicians to cover selections from Lennon’s vast catalog. Familiar names like Sigmund Snopek, Mrs. Fun, The Delta Routine and Chris Haise Band get roughly 10 minutes each to share their rendition of something from Lennon’s Beatles or solo days.

The $15 you fork over at the door gets you all that music, as well as the knowledge that it’ll go to Wisconsin Anti Violence Effort (WAVE) and the National Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. On top of that, WAVE has set up a fundraising raffle featuring items we’re told are “fantastic.” Check out the schedule below and make plans to stop by for your favorite Lennon songs or the whole darn thing.
