Milwaukee’s concert scene has a lot going on, so we look at the shows coming up to find the ones you’ll look back on and be glad you went. Then we add them to our weekly Milwaukee Concert Picks.
Here in this first proper week after the holidays, the city’s concert calendar is on the light side. But even if it were its typically loaded self, we’d still swing the spotlight over to a wonderful show that sprung from a not-so-wonderful development from late last year.
Last Nov. 8, Milwaukee rapper Twan Mack died at the age of 54. You could argue we’re never ready to lose the people who make a positive impact on the city, but this still felt far too soon for someone who still had plenty more to contribute. With the pain still feeling fresh to those who knew him either personally or musically, The Cooperage is opening its doors for a tribute to Twan Mack this Saturday, Jan. 11.
Both the size of the show’s lineup and its quality are fitting for the man being honored. You can see the whole thing in the graphic below, but to see more than 25 artists ready to show up for one of Milwaukee’s hip-hop legends is simultaneously heartening because of the turnout and heartbreaking because of the circumstances.
Radio Milwaukee was fortunate to welcome Mack into our space and onto our airwaves on a regular basis, including an installment of 414 Live back in 2019. You can watch that performance below and some of the city’s best pay tribute to Twan Mack this Saturday at The Cooperage.
