MKE Concert Pick: Pull up a chair with The War & Treaty

Milwaukee’s concert scene has a lot going on, so we look at the shows coming up to find the ones you’ll look back on and be glad you went. Then we add them to our weekly Milwaukee Concert Picks.

Have you ever read a description of an album and felt like they wrote it just for you? I was checking out what people were saying about The War & Treaty’s Plus One when it came out this past Valentine’s Day, and this tiny ray of sunshine poked through:

“[L]ife-affirming songs aimed at providing a shared experience of hope and healing and much-needed joy.”

Hope and healing and joy. First of all, when isn’t there a time in our lives when we couldn’t use more of those three things? But, if you’re like me, they might come in especially handy right now, which is great timing with husband-and-wife duo Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Trotter coming to Turner Hall this Thursday.

Anyone at the BMO Pavilion nine months ago knows that this couple absolutely crushes it in a concert setting. Just about everything you can find on The War & Treaty on the interwebs tags them as a country act, but that’s quite reductive. There’s soul and gospel and classic R&B mixed in as well, and it’ll play oh-so-well in a venue like Turner Hall Ballroom.

It’s also a seated show, and if you’ve never been to a seated show at Turner Hall, it’s a pleasantly unique vibe. A little more grown-up, a little more sophisticated, a lot easier on the knees. Give your joints a rest and join The War & Treaty at Turner Hall Ballroom this Thursday night.
