Milwaukee’s concert scene has a lot going on, so we look at the shows coming up to find the ones you’ll look back on and be glad you went. Then we add them to our weekly Milwaukee Concert Picks, sponsored by Urban Ecology Center.
With Saturday’s conditions looking like sun and temperatures approaching 80, it’s possible the titular article of clothing may not be necessary when you attend Flannel Fest in the parking lot outside of the Cooperage / Boone & Crockett. Notice we said “when” and not “if,” because the only thing nicer than the hopefully accurate weather forecast is the ridiculous lineup at this year’s event.
All by his lonesome, headliner Langhorne Slim makes the festival’s very reasonable price of zero dollars and zero cents the best concert bargain in Milwaukee and every other major metropolitan city this weekend. The man born Sean Scolnick has been cranking out high-quality Americana for nigh on two decades and boasts a catalog that can make you whoop, stomp, cry, holler, dance and sway — all in the same set.
After a relatively long stretch between albums, Langhorne Slim shared The Dreamin’ Kind in the early weeks of 2026 and added another well-received 12 tracks to the possibilities for this Saturday’s performance. But before you even get to that, there’s a full day of excellence on tap, including Buffalo Nichols, Ellie Jackson & Friends (more on her in a moment), Mol Sullivan, Gold Steps and more. It all starts at noon in the Harbor District.
We’re not entirely sure what the set times are for Flannel Fest, but Ellie Jackson will definitely be on the move Saturday, because she’s got an album-release party set for Cactus Club at the curious time of 3 p.m., presumably before she takes the stage at the festival.
Jackson released Stay Soft last Friday, adding a proper full-length studio album to showcase the songwriting we’ve enjoyed on stages across Milwaukee over the years. The compositions that landed on the record span her career, including the single we helped her premiere just before the LP’s release. Jackson has thoughtfully given us two chances to enjoy her musical stylings this Saturday, so be sure to take her up on it.
