Lucinda and Mississippi John Hurt make a "Pallet on Your Floor"

Weary blues, honey, everywhere I see; No one ever had the blues like me

When it comes to the traditional folk/blues song "Make Me a Pallet on Your Floor," it's been "covered" by everyone and their mother.... mostly because, well, we don't know the song's original writer.

But what DO we know?

We know it's origins can be traced back to the 19th century and various versions of the lyrics were first published in 1911. The first recording was then in 1928 by the famous Mississippi John Hurt.

And, for any of you that were confused as I was: no, no, a "pallet" isn't like a wood pallet, like one of these:

A "pallet" was a term used to refer to a straw bed in the 19th century. Makes more sense now, huh?

Either way, the lovely Lucinda Williams covered the traditional folk song in her 1978 album "Ramblin' on My Mind" and kills it with her raspy tone and monotonous strumming.

Aaaaaaand, it's your Five O'Clock Shadow for today. check it:
