Rico Love discusses his Milwaukee roots and shares the stories behind his biggest songs

Rico Love is one of the most successful songwriters ever to call Milwaukee home. In addition to his solo career, the singer has penned and produced hits for artists like Usher, Beyonce, Wiz Khalifa, Mary J. Blige and Kelly Rowland. Despite his industry commitments, though, Love has never strayed too far from Milwaukee and returns to the city regularly.

This weekend Love will return for the We Love Music Conference at the Miller High Life Theatre, which promises a crash course in the music industry from managers, producers and artists, as well as Q&A panels. But ahead of that event, Love swung by Radio Milwaukee for a DJ takeover, where he shared the stories behind some of his biggest records, including his fallout (and reunion) with Kelly Rowland, whose hit "Motivation" he co-wrote. He also shared some advice for his younger self and explained why he thinks he hasn't received the credit he deserves.
