The annual event that kicks off the summer festival season here in Milwaukee, Pridefest has announced it won't return until 2022. For an event that has been going on since 1987, I can't imagine how difficult it has been for the organizers to cancel two years in a row. I do have hope that 2022 will be the biggest year yet for the largest, and longest-running, LGBTQ+ festival in the country.
In the meantime, we know that the celebration and support of this amazing community must continue. To add to some of the amazing things that will already be happening in our city during the month of June and beyond, Light The Hoan, Milwaukee Pride, DJ Shawna and 88Nine Radio Milwaukee have decided to host something safe, fun and celebratory for everyone to enjoy. Saturday, June 5, at 9 p.m., the lights from the Hoan Bridge will be dancing in the night sky to a special mix curated by the Milwaukee Bucks' official DJ and producer, DJ Shawna. To truly enjoy this visual experience you must pull up to the Hoan Bridge, tune your FM Dial to 88.9FM and enjoy the lights.
Not only will DJ Shawna be celebrating Pride Month, but she will also be debuting her first official song, "I Won't Give Up" featuring Tanner Howe. She found time in her very busy playoff schedule to talk to us about life, her love for music and her affection for her community. Just click the link below and enjoy the interview.
