Mike Kinsella explains how Cap'n Jazz, The Promise Ring and American Football are all connected

American Football is back. We’ve been playing the band’s newest single, “Uncomfortably Numb,” from the new album coming out on March 22.

While he was at home in Chicago, I talked to frontman Mike Kinsella about his relationship to Milwaukee and what it was like to reshape American Football’s beloved early indie music for the year 2019.

Listen to our conversation below where we talk about the evolution of American Football and where I find out that Kinsella was making music with Milwaukee emo pioneer Davey von Bohlen (of Maritime) in Cap’n Jazz and The Promise Ring since the beginning.

We were just sort of concerned answering the first record. Like, 'Where are the people who wrote the first record? Where are they now?'
