Marimba-cumbia-punk and indie-surf dress up your concert weekend

Milwaukee’s concert scene has a lot going on, so we look at the shows coming up to find the ones you’ll look back on and be glad you went. Then we add them to our weekly Milwaukee Concert Picks.

Halloween and Dia De Los Muertos are upon us, so this is definitely the weekend to seek out some adventure.

First off, Latinos Arts Inc. will celebrate Day of the Dead by welcoming Son Rompe Pera at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28. The members of Son Rompe Pera hail from the outskirts of Mexico City and keep the traditions of marimba music strong by fusing it with garage/punk. If that sounds intriguing (how could it not?), check out what NPR Music had to say about them earlier this month.

The next night in the Arts At Large space not too far from our home in Walker’s Point, indie rockers Fellow Kinsman will put their spin on this spooky weekend with an album release show for their latest project Where Were You

If you haven’t witnessed a Fellow Kinsman performance up close and personal, Halloween season is the perfect time to do so. Plus you get to see them in a unique space, with the sounds of Old Pup opening the night. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and of course a Halloween weekend event would not be complete without a costume party with prizes.

More shows worth a go
