Find your happy place at Maggie Rogers’ Feral Joy Tour

Milwaukee’s concert scene has a lot going on, so we look at the shows coming up to find the ones you’ll look back on and be glad you went. Then we add them to our weekly Milwaukee Concert Picks.

"The Feral Joy Tour" feels like a totally fitting title to adorn the journey for Maggie Rogers’ latest album, Surrender, which taps into Rogers’ personal quest for finding renewed joy.

Lead single “That’s Where I Am” truly added a little oomph to our airwaves over the summer with big synths and bass meeting piano and percussion for a cerebral dance-pop vision that still feels relatable, even in its transcendent moments (and the rest of the album is totally worthwhile getting lost in if you haven’t yet had the chance to).

Pitchfork’s Quinn Moreland approved of her latest effort, writing: “Rogers’ hunger is matched by her physical voice. Her once-breathy tone has deepened into a register that sounds right at home alongside a singer like Florence Welch. … When she lives in this range, her guttural voice grounds the idiosyncratic production flourishes.”

See if you agree when she plays the Riverside Theater this Sunday, or head out to one of the other live-music options around Milwaukee in the days ahead.
