R.A.P. Ferreira’s enlightened rhymes lead this week’s live music

Milwaukee’s concert scene has a lot going on, so we look at the shows coming up to find the ones you’ll look back on and be glad you went. Then we add them to our weekly Milwaukee Concert Picks.

Racine native R.A.P. Ferreira — better known to Wisconsinites as Rory Ferreira, milo or scallops hotel, and the founder of label Ruby Yacht — now calls Nashville home. But a lot of Midwest folks still follow his releases ardently. This week, they’ll get to hear them in person.

Zen poetry is fused into Ferreira’s very being, which is obvious to anyone who has seen him perform or listened to anything from his lengthy back catalog, including recent album 5 to the Eye with Stars. Last fall, we played his standalone single, “Black Paladin’s Theme (Free Take),” which features production work from UZ. On the track, he repeats that the pressure is on him but chooses to “jam on it.” It’s easy to appreciate that message nowadays — or to hold on to that wise nugget for the future.

Find R.A.P. Ferreira back home at Cactus Club this Friday, March 3, for a show with ELDON and Bright Boy.
