The path to REYNA's new normal: bad advice, good music and motherhood

Ariel Kassulke

Around 2012, in the little pockets of our great city, artistry in the genres of hip-hop, indie-rock/pop, Latin, reggaeton and beyond was slowly brewing. REYNA — then performing as Vic and Gab — were no exception to the very important movement of Latin musicians that came out of Milwaukee in the 2010s.

Ten years after Bridges & Guns, their freshman album release as Vic and Gab, REYNA's sound, personal lives and perspectives on the music industry have transitioned into what we hear today. They are a duo driven forward by songs of relationships, messages in their native tongue (Spanish) and performing live.

In our interview, we discuss their path to finding a home with Cosmica Artists, being a member of the Latinx community and the importance of representation, creating and performing as a mom and a tití, and what's in store for the future of the band.

You can listen to the full audio interview below and then hear their evolution for yourself this Thursday, Nov. 3. They'll be at Cactus Club for a 7 p.m. all-ages show opening for You Win !! and supporting their own recent EP, you could at least say goodbye.
