Lost Orange Cat wants to know how you’ll feel on ‘Your Last Day’

Three men holding guitars perform on stage with multicolored lights overhead as one of them sings into a microphone and another man plays drums in the background.

Every week, Milwaukee Music Premiere connects the city’s artists with our listening audience. If you’re an artist with a track you’d like us to debut exclusively on Radio Milwaukee, head over to our Music Submission page to learn how.

We typically associate fire-and-brimstone speeches with a message of repentance: Straighten yourself out, or the devil’s gonna getcha. On new single “Your Last Day,” Lost Orange Cat brings that red-hot approach with more of a focus on the right-now-life vs. the afterlife.

The bluesy, southern rock jam builds methodically— a solo bass joined one at a time by its fellow instruments — before horns and drums, as well as Josh Konkel’s growling vocals, bring the bombast. It’s all in service of getting the listener to consider how a series of small daily decisions can sneakily add up to a lifetime of regret:

When your time is up
And the clock is struck
Are you ready?
Did you waste it all?

In case this Milwaukee Music Premiere isn’t enough to drive that message home, Lost Orange Cat says you can consider “Your Last Day” an opening statement as they make an album-length case for seizing the day on The Game Ain’t Played With Dice. You can listen to the track using the player above and join the band at their album-release show this Saturday, March 11, at the Cooperage.
