Milwaukee all-stars to take over Turner Hall this August
A very heartening trend has unfolded in The Back Room at Colectivo over the last year or so. Milwaukee bands (often with an album release to celebrate) have slid into the headlining spot to showcase their own talent and that of the city’s music scene as a whole.
This August, the local focus will hit a new level in a couple different ways as four bands who recently dipped into the Back Room make the jump to Turner Hall Ballroom — all on the same night. Here’s your lineup of Milwaukee indie-rock Avengers for the Aug. 25 show, along with links to the new albums they released in the last year:
- Social Cig — Cheesehead
- Fellow Kinsman — Where Were You
- Diet Lite — Into the Pudding
- Bug Moment — The Flying Toad Circus
If you missed any of those Back Room concerts in the past nine months, this is your big chance to atone, play catch-up, get a crash course in Milwaukee music, etc. It also feels like the kind of show where they could pop into each other’s sets and — this may be wishful thinking — even join together at the end for a collective, “We Are the World”-esque group effort … but Milwaukee.
However the bands decide to build the setlist, this really is a great opportunity to spend a Friday night with a few of the city’s most talented outfits. You can pick up tickets via an eMember presale at noon this Thursday, May 4 (code: MAY), or the general sale that starts at 10 a.m. Friday online and at the Pabst/Riverside box offices.
