Radio Milwaukee’s new Urban Alternative HYFIN channel (WYMS-88.9FM HD2) is partnering with the Milwaukee Bucks to release a collab t-shirt and Soul Brew Kombucha to produce “HYFIN-aded” kombucha for Juneteenth Day this Sunday, the day HYFIN launches, the station announced Tuesday.
HYFIN is the newest Urban Alternative channel, an innovative, locally customized public radio format connecting to young, diverse audiences through the full spectrum of Black music.
HYFIN will also program and host the Juneteenth TeenZone stage, located in Clinton Rose Park. DJ LOLO will perform at Milwaukee’s Juneteenth Day celebration from 1 to 2:15 p.m. Sunday, followed by a 2:15-3:30 p.m. set from DJ GEMINI GILLY.
“We are ecstatic to be partnering with the Milwaukee Bucks, Alesia Miller, owner of Soul Brew Kombucha, and DJs LOLO and GEMINI GILLY on our programming and activation for Juneteenth Day,” HYFIN Program Director Tarik Moody said.
“HYFIN aims to amplify and elevate the amazing contributions of Black women in our community, so it was very important to us to do that with our launch on Juneteenth.”
Miller is the founder and CEO of Milwaukee’s first Black woman-owned kombucha tea brewing company. Soul Brew uses only the finest, local ingredients and brews in small batches to ensure full bodied integrity in every sip. The “HYFIN-aded” kombucha features a sorrel flavor and bright red color.
“Because we are releasing ‘HYFIN-aded’ on Juneteenth Day, it was important to me to incorporate flavors and colors that are emblematic of the history of Juneteenth,” Miller said. “The red color from the hibiscus represents the history of our people and is intended to lift spirits.”
“HYFIN-aded” will be available for purchase at Juneteenth Day and will be available in-store at Outpost Natural Foods, Riverwest Co-Op, The Glass Pantry and Riley’s Sandwich Shop, and online through Milwaukee Farmers United.
HYFIN also will be celebrating its launch at Juneteenth Day through a collaborative t-shirt with the Milwaukee Bucks. Designed by creative director DeChazier Pykel, the shirt features a unique design and states “WE ARE ALL CONNECTED.” Shirts were printed by Cream City Print Lounge and will be distributed by HYFIN and the Milwaukee Bucks on-site at Juneteenth.
