Beth Orton leads trio of show announcements from the Pabst Group

I have to admit that the term “folktronica” escaped my notice until just this moment, but English singer/songwriter Beth Orton’s work in the genre/portmanteau dates back to the mid-1990s. Now, after a five-year absence from touring and a six-year gap between albums, she’ll bring material from a new LP to the Pabst Theater on Nov. 11

A two-time recipient of the Mercury Prize for best album released in the U.K. by a British or Irish artist, Orton’s latest offering, “Weather Alive,” is due out Sept. 23. You can listen to new single “Friday Night” below, and get tickets to her upcoming show at 10 a.m. this Friday, Aug. 19, online and at the Pabst/Riverside box offices.

Thee Sacred Souls | Sept. 22, The Back Room @ Colectivo

A little more than a week before the release of their first album, the soul trio announced a string of dates that includes a stop on Prospect Avenue. The singles from Thee Sacred Souls’ eponymous debut scheduled for Aug. 29 exhibited frontman Josh Lane’s effortless vocal range, as well as the warmth the band injects into their music.

Watch the video for “Easier Said Than Done” below, and pick up tickets starting at 9 a.m. this Thursday, Aug. 18, online and at the Pabst/Riverside box offices.

Artikal Sound System | Sept. 18, The Back Room @ Colectivo

After years spent playing behind a variety of Carribean singers, guitarist Chris Montague and bass player Fabian Acuña tried something different with their reggae band, inviting neighbor Logan Rex to provide vocals. They released new album “Welcome to Florida” earlier this year and will come to the Back Room in the dying days of summer, hopefully helping you forget the weather that’s on the way.

You can get tickets at noon this Friday, Aug. 19, online and at the Pabst/Riverside box offices.
