Mexican Fiesta will start the party a day early with Los Bukis

It’s the 50th anniversary of Mexican Fiesta, which returns to Maier Festival Park from Aug. 25 to 27. But a big occasion like this calls for an equally big way to kick off the celebration. So organizers decided to get the party started a day early and booked one of the biggest Latin music acts on the planet: Los Bukis.

The legendary Grupero band will play the American Family Insurance Amphitheater on Aug. 24, which is currently the only date on their schedule outside of a festival appearance at Dodger Stadium in December.

The group was in the midst of a 25-year break when — seemingly out of the blue — they announced a comeback tour in 2021. Those nine shows brought in almost $50 million, including a weekend in Chicago that attracted more than 80,000 fans to Soldier Field. Promoters expect a similar response this August, with FPC Live President Charlie Goldston saying in a release that they believe it will be “the largest performance for a Latin Artist ever in the city of Milwaukee.”

“Mexican Fiesta's 50th anniversary is a great opportunity to honor our community's strong tradition of hard work and commitment as well as its unique cultural heritage,” Mexican Fiesta Executive Director Teresa C. Mercado added. “Having Los Bukis performing as our kick-off celebration emphasizes the historical momentum and represents the beginning of a remarkable collaboration between FPC Live, Mexican Fiesta and Milwaukee World Festival.”

There are four ticket presales that start at 10 a.m. this Thursday, March 17, and a general sale that begins at the same time the following day. You can access all the sales online through Ticketmaster, and each concert ticket will include admission to Mexican Fiesta’s opening day, Aug. 25.
