A couple years after her Summerfest appearance opening for Machine Gun Kelly, Avril Lavigne will be back at the grounds — this time as the headliner — when her “Greatest Hits” tour rolls through Milwaukee on Sept. 9.

The show at the American Family Insurance Amphitheater comes at the tail end of her journey across North America, which starts and ends in her native Canada: May 22 in Vancouver through Sept. 16 in Edmonton. Lavigne split opening duties across her shows, with Milwaukee getting Simple Plan and Girlfriends.

The pop-punk princess has plenty to put into a “Greatest Hits” tour based on a career that has seen her sell 50 million albums globally, pick up eight Grammy Award nominations and win 10 JUNO Awards north of the border. Lavigne’s first four albums all earned platinum status, and she released her latest LP, Love Sux, in February 2022 — just a few months before that Summerfest show with MGK.

If you want to catch her headlining gig in September, there are a handful of presales at 10 a.m. this Wednesday followed by a general sale at 10 a.m. this Friday, Jan. 26, via Ticketmaster and the American Family Insurance Amphitheater box office.
