Chrissie Hynde and her bandmates in The Pretenders will hit Milwaukee in the middle of this summer's headlining run.

Back in July of 2018, rock legends The Pretenders swung through Milwaukee and played a double-encore ripper in front of a sold-out crowd at the Riverside Theater. Almost exactly six years later, they’ll try to pack the house again when their U.S. tour hits the Riverside on July 29.

The Chrissie Hynde-led outfit — now with more than 46 years under their belts, having formed in 1978 — will roll out their headlining run at the same time they join Foo Fighters for a series of stadium dates across the country. The Milwaukee show comes a day after they play Minnesota’s Target Field with Dave Grohl & Co.

Just last year, The Pretenders released their 12th studio album, Relentless, following up 2020’s Hate for Sale. A few weeks before that previous LP’s release, the band planned to join Journey at Alpine Valley Music Theatre for a June 6 show that wound up getting scuppered by the pandemic.

Two years prior, they played that Riverside Theater show that featured Hynde in full rockstar mode, bossing the stage and connecting with the crowd throughout. With this upcoming show following a gig at the cavernous baseball stadium in the Twin Cities, one can imagine she’ll be quite pleased to find herself in more intimate surroundings once again.

Tickets go on sale later this week, first via an online presale at noon Thursday (password: GOBUCKS), then during a general sale that starts the following day at 10 a.m. online and at the Pabst/Riverside box offices.
