Jane’s Addiction, Love and Rockets coming to BMO Pavilion

Milwaukee World Festivals

Prior to Monday night’s show at an intimate London venue, Jane’s Addiction hadn’t performed with their original lineup since 2010. Apparently, the experience suited them just fine because they followed it up Tuesday morning by announcing a North American tour with U.K. indie icons Love and Rockets that’ll visit Milwaukee’s BMO Pavilion on Sept. 22.

In the 14 years since last playing together, it seemed to get less and less likely that the classic Jane’s Addiction roster would ever share a stage again. Frontman Perry Farrell and drummer Stephen Perkins had Porno For Pyros to keep them busy, guitarist Dave Navarro had his own side projects plus a bout with long COVID, and bassist Eric Avery had declined several invites to reunite since leaving the group in the early 1990s.

But Monday’s performance at the Roundhouse in London went pretty well, to say the least. In his five-star review for The Guardian, Stevie Chick noted that “with the classic lineup at last realigned, visibly pumped to be in each other’s company, and with new material on the way, they’ve not sounded this vivid and alive in decades.”

Love and Rockets have been enjoying their own renaissance lately, stemming in large part from the reissue of their catalog from when they were on the Beggars Banquet label. Since their founding nearly four decades ago, the U.K. band carved out a rock-solid career that spanned seven studio albums and turned them into one of the more influential groups of their era. Among the bands citing Love and Rockets as crucial to their development are The Flaming Lips, Beck and, of course, Jane’s Addiction.

The two bands will share stages across North America starting Aug. 9 in Las Vegas before stopping in Milwaukee toward the end of the run. The first of many presales started at 10 a.m. today, May 28, while the general sale gets underway at 10 a.m. Friday, May 31. More information about all of that can be found at Ticketmaster.
