The Magnetic Fields will play ‘69 Love Songs’ in Milwaukee next May

This year’s tour celebrating the 25th anniversary of 69 Love Songs appears to have gone pretty well for The Magnetic Fields, because the group has decided to extend the run with a series of dates that includes Milwaukee’s Pabst Theater on May 6 and 7.

In most situations like this, a two-day stop is an anticipation of enthusiastic demand from a fan base eager to see a beloved artist. In this particular case, it’s just plain necessary considering the album they’re performing in its entirety is — as the name suggests — 69 songs long and spans nearly three hours.

Across those many tracks, the listener gets a little bit of everything, from country to jazz and synth pop to balladry. The album also gave us “The Book of Love,” which soundtracked the closing moments of inarguably the greatest series finale in television history.

Tickets for both nights of The Magnetic Fields’ Pabst Theater engagement May 6 and 7 go on sale later this week, first during an eMember presale at noon Thursday (password: HALLOWEEN), then a general sale at 10 a.m. Friday online and at the Pabst/Riverside box offices.
