Slowly but surely, the American Family Insurance Amphitheater spots are being claimed for Summerfest 2025, which announced its latest headliner Monday morning. Hozier will be on the big stage the first Friday, June 20, with support from recent Studio Milwaukee visitor Gigi Perez.
As a result, the first weekend at the Amp is now entirely spoken for: Def Leppard and Tesla on June 19, Hozier and Perez on June 20, and James Taylor and Jason Mraz on June 21.
Hozier and Perez are, inarguably, the spring chickens of the bunch and found widespread success in the past year thanks to their respective breakout singles. Hozier’s entry, “Too Sweet” from the Unheard EP, briefly held the top spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 and marked the first time the Irish musician reached that lofty peak. Prior to that, his 2014 single “Take Me To Church” climbed to No. 2 and helped the self-titled debut album on which it appeared also reach the second slot on the U.S. charts.
Including that first LP, Hozier has remarkably only released three studio albums but has also stayed quite busy via a series of EPs and singles. Across those many creative endeavors, he’s built an instantly recognizably soulful sound that pulls in elements of folk, blues and high-emotion rock.
Perez, meanwhile, finds herself in the more formative stages of her career and has one studio effort under her belt: 2023s How to Catch a Falling Knife. The album came out while she was signed to Interscope Records, but her big success came just a few months after leaving the label.
A trio of singles released this past year included “Sailor Song,” which gained serious traction on TikTok and ascended to the No. 22 spot on the Hot 100. During that climb, Perez swung through Milwaukee for a sold-out show at the Vivarium and a Studio Milwaukee Session — the first of many, hopefully.
If you’re interested in picking up tickets for the June 20 show featuring Hozier and Gigi Perez, there’s an artist presale that starts at 10 a.m. this Wednesday and a venue presale at the same time the following day. The general public gets their first crack at tickets at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20, online via Ticketmaster and at the amphitheater box office.
