Billy Idol, Joan Jett team up for tour coming to Milwaukee this August

Milwaukee World Festival

A pair of rock legends have joined forces for a nationwide tour that includes a stop at Milwaukee’s American Family insurance Amphitheater on Sunday, Aug. 31.

Billy Idol occupies the headliner slot on that irresistibly named “It’s a Nice Day to … Tour Again!” that rolls out April 30 in Phoenix and makes 29 more stops before wrapping up at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on Sept. 25. Joan Jett & The Blackhearts will be there the whole way, creating a double bill of rock royalty.

Idol’s sneeringly playful persona first made a splash on the music scene in 1976 as the frontman for U.K. punk group Generation X. The band was the first to release “Dancing With Myself,” which landed on their third album. But Idol ultimately decided to rework the song after embarking on his solo career, creating the version we know today.

Eight studio albums have supplied Idol with plenty of material for his shows, including “Dancing With Myself.” Songs like “Eyes Without a Face,” “Mony Mony” and “Cradle of Love” all cracked the top 10 in the United States, although perhaps his best-known song — “White Wedding” — only managed a peak of No. 36. Idol also has a new album in the works, details of which will apparently be shared “soon.”

Joan Jett & The Blackhearts have fared pretty darn well themselves, culminating with their induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015. The band has a dozen studio albums under their belts and a bevy of instantly recognizable songs — “I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll,” “Bad Reputation,” “I Hate Myself for Loving You” and “Crimson and Clover” among them.

Tickets for the Aug. 31 show featuring Billy Idol and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts go on sale to the general public at 9 a.m. this Friday via Ticketmaster and at the American Family Insurance Amphitheater box office. There are also a handful of presales you can learn more about on the event’s webpage.
