Thee Sacred Souls will visit the Riverside on next leg of their tour

Thee Sacred Souls

When Thee Sacred Souls needed a label for their run of shows that kicked off a few days into the new year, they didn’t have to look any further than the lead single from last year’s Got a Story to Tell.

The “Live for You” tour (I’ll let you decide whether that’s a short “I” or a long “I” sound) stayed out west for those three weeks of performances — until Tuesday’s announcement that the journey will continue with a handful of dates, including June 6 at the Riverside Theater.

The San Diego soul outfit got on a lot of people’s radars with the release of their self-titled debut album in 2022, which our public-radio colleagues at KCRW named one of the 22 best of that year. Not long after, our own Kenny Perez called their Radio Day Stage performance at SXSW 2023 “one of the most remarkable performances of the festival.”

The live shows during that period directly influenced Got a Story to Tell, with the group pointing out that “in the process [we] went from young musicians to a tight-knit, stress-tested band who knew each other like family.” The inherent challenges of being on the road — none bigger than balancing real life back home — pushed the new record in a darker direction relative to its predecessor without sacrificing a drop of quality.

Having last played Milwaukee in 2022, the June 6 visit to the Riverside Theater will be the first time the band brings that new music to town. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. this Friday online and at the Pabst/Riverside box offices.
