Indigo De Souza is coming to Turner Hall Ballroom this July

Here in the Milwaukee area, we haven’t gotten many live looks/listens to Indigo De Souza in the seven years or so since releasing her first proper studio album. Thankfully, that will be remedied July 16, when the “pulls no punches” indie-rock artist visits Turner Hall Ballroom.

De Souza was already planning to be in the neighborhood for a pair of Chicago shows supporting Lord Huron on July 19-20 and booked a series of preceding dates that includes her stop in Milwaukee. It’ll be her first time on stage in the city since opening for Lucy Dacus at Turner Hall back on Valentine’s Day in 2022.

The years since that show have been fruitful for De Souza, who released the excellent All of This Will End in April of 2023. The album continued her existential approach, although the focus on death took on a much bigger sound while tangling with subjects ranging from toxic relationships to her youthful instability.

That may not scream “fun listen,” but the record was one of my favorites from that year because of its ability to careen between exuberantly danceable and deeply emotional.

De Souza followed the LP with a three-song set titled WHOLESOME EVIL FANTASY — the names of the three tracks — that came out last September. A month later, the North Carolina artist found herself caught in the path of Hurricane Helene and reached out for help rebuilding her home and resuming her career. The response allowed her to do both, and it sounds like she might have some new music to share when she returns to the road this year.

Tickets for Indigo De Souza’s show July 16 at Turner Hall Ballroom go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. this Friday, March 14, online and at the Pabst/Riverside box offices.
