Another trip through music's history and hidden gems with Justin Vernon

A few weeks back, Justin Vernon’s voice eased into the ears of 88Nine listeners once again. Not the tuneful version we hear in his compositions and collaborations, but a low-end rumble that puts you at ease as he speaks and sifts through the Song Chest Radio Hour.

Episode two was another 60-minute exercise in connection, playing songs and artists from anywhere and everywhere to make the world feel a little smaller. There was blues from the American South, electronic-dance from Norway and experiments in sound from Portugal, plus some Dolly Parton for good measure.

As usual, we got more than a wide-ranging playlist. We got Vernon’s perspective, personal stories and even performances as he couldn’t help but sing along when the moment moved him.

You can find episode two below ( and episode one here), then mark your calendar to listen live when Song Chest Radio Hour returns to 88Nine’s airwaves at 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6.
