Pinky Pinky on Frank Zappa

Pinky Pinky picks "You Didn't Try to Call Me" by Frank Zappa

My guest today is the band Pinky Pinky. Well, specifically, Eva and Anastasis from Pinky Pinky. Eva and Anastasia and they live in L.A.. They released this album earlier this year called "Turkey Dinner"that we just love. We have been playing this song "Mr. Sunday" from that album. My guests today are Eva and Anastasia from the band Pinky Pinky.

What is the last song that you couldn't stop listening to?

Eva and I have been listening to the album "Freak Out" a lot.

By Frank Zappa?

Yeah, because I listened to that a lot when we first started playing music.

That's interesting because Frank Zappa has released probably a billion albums, what brings you back to 'Freak Out'?

The whole album is kind of sarcastic, and witty and perverted. They're kind of poking fun at the LA music scene at the time, so it's funny listening to it today because it's still very relatable. It just kind of reminds you not to take yourself too seriously, that you can still have fun making music and there are no rules.

Do we have a song that we could cue in? Because we will play Frank Zappa on the air, which gives me great joy.

Hmm. I think, off of "Freak Out." Probably "You Didn't Try to Call Me" because it's just so desperate.

What about it do you find desparate?

It's just like a plead to you know, "you didn't try to call me..."

How relatable. I think the most effective songs are the ones that are just about the things that happen in everyday life, about the small things like not being called back.

Yeah exactly, you know, I feel like a lot of artists are scared to be that honest and desperate. So, it's funny to just have some humor in it and just be as desperate as you possibly can, just whine the whole song.
