MKE Concert Pick: Something to Do (again!) at X-Ray Arcade

Milwaukee’s concert scene has a lot going on, so we look at the shows coming up to find the ones you’ll look back on and be glad you went. Then we add them to our weekly Milwaukee Concert Picks.

If you regularly scan this concert calendar of ours, you’ll often see bands — especially local ones we really dig — pop up multiple times. I can say with almost 100% certainty that we’ve never picked the exact same show twice. Until today.

Back in January, 88Nine music director Erin Wolf shared her excitement for a show featuring a band that has grabbed the baton of Milwaukee’s ska and ska-punk tradition: Something To Do at X-Ray Arcade on Jan. 12.

Today, we’re sharing a precisely equal amount of excitement for a show featuring a band that had to reschedule that winter performance: Something To Do at X-Ray Arcade on April 26.

The quirky calendar shuffle carries with it an existential question: Can you stage an album-release show for an album that got its release more than four months prior? The answer is a resounding “yes” because … well, this one is happening. It’s all in honor of Something To Do’s most recent LP, Here Comes the Panic, which lived up to what the band had to say about it in January.

“Over our last few albums, we’ve done a fair amount of stretching and have had some pretty long albums,” they told Brooklyn Vegan. “This one really got the ‘all killer, no filler’ treatment.”

The band’s fans also got an extra 105 days to learn every word so they can joyously shout them back at the stage in between the jumping and skanking and whatnot. You still have a little time to brush up on Something To Do’s new material, so head over to their Bandcamp page and then bounce down to Cudahy on Friday night for their show with Devon Kay & The Solutions, Jinksie and Bellends.
