Feel the distortion of love and heartache on great ‘Exscape’

Every Monday, “Add of the Week” unveils all the new songs going into the 88Nine on-air playlist, with one hand-picked selection put in the spotlight by a member of our music team.

This week, we’re adding the beautifully haunting track “Exscape” from Brooklyn-based singer, songwriter and producer Montell Fish’s recent and raw DIY EP, Her Love Still Haunts Me Like a Ghost

If you took in the sounds from Fish’s 2016 debut project, As We Walk into Forever, you know that love and heartache has inspired his writing for many years. It’s hard to believe that at the very young age of 25, this new EP is his seventh release.

Her Love … is the bridge between his critically acclaimed Summer release, JAMIE and the soon-to-be-released duo of CHARLOTTE and MARSHALL. As he told Hypebeast’s Sarah Kearns, “All three albums are loosely tied to the theme of grief and the emotions felt throughout the grieving process.”

Personally, I’m just excited that we got together as a team and decided to support this hungry, talented and soon-to-be household name (IMO, of course). You can listen to “Exscape” below and on 88Nine by tuning your FM dial in Milwaukee, or streaming worldwide on our website and mobile app.

This week’s other adds

  • “Hayat,” Kit Sebastian
  • “Lonely One,” Sure Sure
  • “Easy On Your Own?” Alvvays
  • “Nsera” Fatoumata Diawara (feat. Damon Albarn)
  • “What Are the Odds,” Death Valley Girls
  • “I Ain't Quite Where I Think I Am,” Arctic Monkeys
  • “The Only Way Out,” Danielle Ponder
