'How I'd Kill' will break your heart ... and make you want to dance?

Every Monday, Add of the Week unveils all the new songs going into the 88Nine on-air playlist, with one hand-picked selection put in the spotlight by a member of our music team.

I discovered New York-based musician Cowboy Malfoy like any 20-something might: a video that popped up in my Instagram feed. What began as a TikTok with only seven words and a guitar soon morphed into a viral hit about love and loss:

How I'd kill
to see you again

The first three words off this new single — the song's title — are delivered so hauntingly and deliberately you may feel breathless while you wait for what comes next.

Sofia Moreno's violin and Malfoy's vocal range pace the opening minute of this song-in-three-acts. Then, a complete 180 in tone and rhythm, though not in meaning. As the artist explained on his Bandcamp page: "I combined my experience of writing tango, arranging an orchestra, bossanova rhythms, the waltz, and a love for Jeff Buckley to create something I know to be truly unique and exciting."

Regardless of whether or not you've come across a clip of "How I'd Kill" on social media, you really need to hear the full song, which you can do right down below. You can also catch it on 88.9 FM in Milwaukee, or streaming worldwide on our website and mobile app.
