We added so many new tracks from so many big names to the 88Nine playlist this week, and I still can not pick anyone else on the list but Jean Dawson. There's something about his energy, genre-blending delivery and overall approach to music that resonates with me.
This young artist has a lot of great work under his belt but feels fresh and new every time. His trajectory is pointing up, and the recent tease of his collab with SZA in "no szns" (as seen on Instagram and TikTok) is a great indicator of what the immediate future looks like for this young act.
Included in that future is a trilogy of new projects Dawson announced recently, along with a headlining tour that gets on the road this fall. The first of the three installments is “XCAPE” PT. 1, consisting of “delusional world champion" and our Add of the Week, “youth+." The track boasts very few words and plays with your brain, showcasing a frantic sample at the top, killer guitars and a shout-out to hip-hop legends DJ Screw and Three Six Mafia.
