All year long, we welcome nationally and globally touring artists to our stage for Studio Milwaukee Sessions, sponsored by Ellenbecker Investment Group. If you want to be in the live audience for these VIP experiences, become a member today.
As a band, striking the perfect balance between style and substance is tricky. Too far in one direction, and it feels phony. Too far in the other, and you don’t stand out in a crowded field.
Brigitte Calls Me Baby deliver on both counts in equal measure — and, more importantly, make it look effortless.
The Chicago quintet have been extremely kind to Radio Milwaukee over the years, squeezing visits into an absurdly busy schedule. In 2024, they had just a few hours to spare before a Summerfest performance but zipped across the water for a Studio Milwaukee Session at the Cooperage. On Thursday, having toured relentlessly throughout 2026 and about to play two shows on consecutive nights at the Vivarium, they made their first stop at our Walker’s Point studios and treated the packed room to a trio of tracks from new album Irreversible.
And, of course, made it look effortless.
The group breezed on stage with the cool and confidence of a band that’s done this hundreds of times in the last year alone, and launched a set that dared the standing members of the crowd not to dance along. The unbalanced love story of “There Always,” the guilty conscience of “I Danced With Another Love in My Dream” and the isolation of “Slumber Party” all became head-bobbing rippers, marked by frontman Wes Leavins’ unmistakable vocals.
In between songs, he used those sonorous tones to talk with 88Nine’s Jon Adler about the highlights from the band’s globetrotting adventures, their upcoming Black Friday album release and one particular fan in San Francisco who went with the “less is more” approach to their concert outfit.
