A Studio Milwaukee session with Slothrust

You’ve heard the song “Double Down” on 88Nine, now listen to Slothrust play it live and give an interview on our stage.

Before the band played a show at the Cooperage on October 26, the trio joined us at 88Nine for an exclusive Studio Milwaukee session.

With Leah Wellbaum on lead vocals and guitar, Kyle Bann on bass and Will Gorin on drums, Slothrust (sloth rust, not slow thrust) assembled on stage and broke out with “Double Down,” then “Walk Away.”

In the interview, the band told us how jazz brought the band together and how many of its elements—like improvisation—still influence the group today.

Slothrust closed the show with the grungey “Planetarium.” And as the members each took turns freely jamming out in the solo time written into the song, we immediately understood what they meant when they said they loved improv.
