Dori Zori picks: KFlay (Miller Lite Oasis), Ani DiFranco (Johnson Controls World Sound Stage) and Joan Jett (BMO Harris Pavilion)
If strong female energy is what you crave, today is your day to head down to the Big Gig. Sonically, my three picks for you today are so diverse, but they all have one thing in common. They are bosses of their own careers and are enchanting live performers. Dance your booty off with one-woman-force of nature, rapper/indie artist KFlay at 8 p.m. at the Miller Lite Oasis. Need to sing about social and political issues with hundreds of other like-minded music lovers? Then transport yourself to the Johnson Controls World Stage for the 8 p.m. Ani DiFranco show. Cap off your night by plunging yourself in the gritty rock 'n' roll served up by Joan Jett (who I wanted to be when I was in 6th grade) at 9 p.m. at the BMO Harris Pavilion.
Justin's From The Music Desk Pick: Vivo @ Klement’s Sausage & Beer Garden, 7 p.m.
This is a purely vibe-based pick. Sometimes you go to Summerfest just to be there and drift around. Vivo is the perfect band to drift into at 7 p.m. at the Klement’s Sausage & Beer Garden and catch a little summer vibe as you are eating your favorite Summerfest food item. Vivo is a Milwaukee based contemporary jazz/bossa nova/samba group featuring Milwaukee’s legendary Bucks Band leader and acclaimed musician Warren Wiegratz. I first caught this group at Live at the Lakefront where they played at Discovery World and really just vibed out with a lightly touched ethereal brand of contemporary jazz that rises like summer heat and hangs in the air so comforting and warm. Catch a vibe with Vivo.
Kenny Perez recommends: El Gran Combo @ Briggs & Stratton Big Backyard, 10 p.m.
El Gran Combo has been a staple sound in the Puerto Rican household for over 50-plus years. With over 14 members in the band, these legends will certainly get people moving and shaking those hips. This show promises to bring Latino culture to the forefront of Summerfest.
Today at the American Family Insurance Amphitheater: Chris Stapleton with Sheryl Crow, 7:30 p.m.
One of country's biggest stars is joined by one of country and rock's most versatile performers as Chris Stapleton and Sheryl Crow tag-team this huge bill. The two memorably featured together on the hit single "Tell Me When It's Over."
