Each Thursday morning on Radio Milwaukee we -- the Journal Sentinel's Piet Levy and 88Nine's Jordan Lee -- talk about the music coming into and the music coming out of Milwaukee on Tap'd In.
This week we're look at all the events happening as part of Hip-Hop Week MKE between Aug. 19-25. The schedule is absolutely loaded, filled with concerts and seminars presented through a hip-hop lens.
A lot of big legends are coming to the city for Hip-Hop Week MKE, but the biggest headliner may be Megan Thee Stallion, who is probably the year's biggest breakout rap artist (perhaps you've heard of "Hot Girl Summer"?) She'll be playing the Rave on Aug. 22.
Scarface, Bun B, and Mystikal will appear at the Hip-Hop Legacy Awards, along with Milwaukee's own Coo Coo Cal. Then the next night at the Rave, there's Kevin Gates.
There are a lot of great local artists performing, too. One highlight: A B~Free-curated tribute to the ladies of hip-hop and R&B at the Marcus Center.
There will also be a health fair and a job fair. Stic Man from Dead Prez, for instance, will be speaking about healthy eating at the Sherman Phoenix on Aug. 21.
Plus Radio Milwaukee will be presenting a bonus episode of its podcast "Backspin," which was recently featured in the New York Times.
