Backline announces its 2020 participants

This morning Backline announced its the participants in its latest program, as well as some adaptations in response to COVID-19. A collaboration between 88Nine and gener8tor, the program takes an accelerator approach to the local music scene, providing selected artists with mentorship and $20,000 grants.

"We thought was given the state of the world this thing couldn't go on given the flux," Piet says. "So I was excited to see this was announced."

How the program works will be a little different, but what it works to do hasn't changed. The program aims to connect Milwaukee musicians with each other and with the music industry outside of the city. The current program began last month and runs through July 24.

And this year's class includes some talent, including rapper Cam Will; self-described "anti-pop singer-songwriter" Bisca Rae (previously known as Liza Jane); So Zuppy, the stage name for songwriter/producer Micah Foust; and rapper Lorde Fredd33. The four artists were selected from more than 300 applicants.

Hear us discuss them all on this week's episode below.
