Celebrate 25 years of Anodyne at the Bean Plant Block Party

Anodyne

Anodyne Coffee Roasting Company has grown well beyond coffee in its 25 years, due in part to its location on Bruce Street in Walker’s Point. The expansive brick building is a gathering spot at all hours and one of the most reliable venues in the city when it comes to catching a quality concert.

On Sept. 22, Anodyne will celebrate everything it’s become in the past quarter-century when it hosts the third annual Bean Plant Block Party at that same Bruce Street location. The free event will mirror Anodyne’s evolution by pulling in all kinds of activities not typically associated with sipping on an espresso.

On the stretch between 2nd and 3rd streets, you’ll find skateboard ramps and obstacles provided by Cream City Skatepark, a portable rock wall from Adventure Rock, beer from Indeed Brewing, snacks and drinks from Station 1846, and a vintage market by 414Flea. You’ll also be able to nosh on food-truck offerings from Frida’s Cocina, Twisted Plants and Pete’s Pops.

“It’s hard to believe we’re reflecting on 25 years of roasting coffee and building community in Milwaukee, and we wanted to celebrate in a big way,” Anodyne events director Erica Karls said in a release.

Her colleague, digital marketing and design manager Drew Kasten, added, “With so many skaters and musicians working at Anodyne, this feels like the perfect way to throw a solid party with our local community, cafe regulars, wholesale customers and the whole Anodyne crew.”

On the skate front, the team from Cream City Skatepark will host an open session for kids from noon to 12:45 p.m., with boards and pads provided for anyone who doesn’t have their own. That will help kick off the outdoor portion of the party, which will wrap up at 5 p.m. At that point, the celebration will move indoors for a free, all-ages anniversary concert from 6 to 9 p.m.
