Science is real (fun)

STEM Expo
UW-Milwaukee Student Union
Feb. 28 | 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

Founded in 2012, the STEM Expo is a science fair-style event with “STEM” (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) booths — or “exploration stations” — featuring an activity or demonstration designed to engage K-12 kids and fuel their interests for all things STEM. With a wide array of captivating modes of visual and hands-on learning exercises, both kids and parents alike get to see into the exciting world of STEM, as well as socialize and network with the STEM professionals and undergrads from all over greater Milwaukee.

Girls & STEM
Discovery World
March 1 | 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Discovery World will once again inspire girls to become the future of STEM at this event featuring real-life interactions and conversations with female role models in the STEM fields. Discovery World will be the site for 20+ exhibitors and organizations that will provide hands-on activities and demonstrations for guests to enjoy.

Among the trees

Winter Break Milwaukee
Havenwoods State Forest
Feb. 28 | Noon-3 p.m.

Winter Break invites you to ditch hibernation at this free festival for all ages, experience levels, bodies and genders. The bonfires will be roaring as you enjoy fun cold-weather activities like bird watching, sled-dog petting, fat-tire biking, lawn games (Kubb!) and much more. Plus there are warm things to do indoors, like candle making demos, tea tasting, weaving, documentary movies and fireside poetry.

Family Tapping
Riveredge Nature Center
Feb. 28 | 1-2:30 p.m.

Help the center prepare for the sugarin’ season by tapping the maple trees in Riveredge’s sugarbush. You’ll have a chance to drill the holes, tap in the spiles and hang the buckets. When it’s maple sugarin’ time, spring can’t be far behind, so get ready for the season at this all-ages event. Pre-register by Feb. 27 at noon, or register at the program if spots are available.

Lights and sounds

Harbor Lights
Harbor Plaza | 600 E. Greenfield Ave.
Feb. 28 | 5-9 p.m.

This new free event brings a winter art experience to Milwaukee’s inner harbor, featuring 13 local artists and their immersive installations. Enjoy all of the creative surprises, including light- and sound-based art, plus a live DJ, fire pits to warm you up, and food-and-drink vendors serving throughout the night. There will also be two special Light the Hoan shows at 7:15 and 9:15 p.m.

First Stage’s Peter Pan & Wendy
Todd Wehr Theater
Through March 22

J.M. Barrie’s classic story comes to life in this thrilling new production. Through the magic of stage wizardry and the power of your imagination, you’ll find yourself transported to Neverland — a place of magic and wonder, of danger and suspense, but above all a place where you will believe in the seemingly unbelievable!

Kid Boogie Down’s Taylor Swift Dance Party
Bavarian Bierhaus
Feb. 28 | 10:30 a.m.

Are you a diehard Swiftie? Then be sure to join this chance to relive the magic and music of the Eras tour by dressing up in your favorite Eras outfit while you dance and sing along to your favorite T-Swift tunes.
