On the first Saturday in May, St. Francis Children’s Center transforms.
The classrooms — filled during the day with learning, laughter and growth — become the backdrop for an evening of music, connection and community. Glasses clink, conversations flow, and a shared purpose brings it all together.
This is Pours for a Purpose.
Now in its 33rd year, the annual fundraiser returns from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, May 2, inviting the community to enjoy wine, beer and chocolate tastings with a festive Derby Day spirit – all in support of children and families across Milwaukee County.
Because Pours for a Purpose isn’t just a night out; it’s an invitation inside the mission.
Hosted right at the center, guests can explore classrooms and therapy spaces while experiencing firsthand how St. Francis Children’s Center supports more than 1,500 children annually through early education, therapy and family programming.
“Our work is about creating opportunities for every child to thrive, no matter where they’re starting from,” executive director Laura Felix said. “This event allows people to step into that work, see it and be part of it in a meaningful way.”
On top of that, guests can expect an evening filled with:
- Wine, beer, chocolate and other tastings from local vendors
- Live music and entertainment
- Raffles and a silent auction
- A live stream of the Kentucky Derby
Yes, Derby attire is encouraged. Think: statement hats, bright colors, bow ties and a little extra flair. Whether you go all out or keep it classic, it’s all part of the fun.
But behind the festive atmosphere is a deeper purpose.
Every ticket supports inclusive early childhood education, pediatric therapy services, early intervention and family support programs, all of which ensure children of all abilities have access to the care they need.
“Pours for a Purpose is a celebration, but it’s also a powerful reminder of what’s possible when a community comes together,” director of marketing and development Cornelius Holt said. “It’s about connection, generosity and creating real impact for families right here in our community.”
At its core, St. Francis Children’s Center is guided by a simple belief: Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow and belong.
Events like this help make that possible, bridging gaps in access to care while strengthening a network of support around families. And for one evening, that network gathers under one roof, toasting to impact and community with every sip. Every year, first-time visitors and long-standing attendees come to Pours for a Purpose expecting not just a vibrant night out, but also a meaningful way to give back.
It all goes back to the phrase that guides the work at St. Francis Children’s Center:
Be the Village.
On May 2, that village comes together — raising a glass (and maybe a julep-inspired sip) not just in celebration, but in support of children and families who deserve every opportunity to thrive.
